Serial Port Redirector as a windows service

I have just installed Serial Port Redirector and it works like a charm.

But unfortunately i might have misunderstood this information:

Important! Once created virtual serial ports are operable at each system startup.

I thought system startup was startup of Windows operating system, but it seems to be startup of the program "Serial Port Redirector".

I would like the program to run without the user knowing it.

Is it possible to run the Serial Port Redirector as a Windows service?
Is it possible to run the program in the background, so that the user is not able to accedentially close the program, or change settings?

Hello pbsiim,

Serial Port Redirector consits of shell and service. Service starts at each system startup (Windows startup). Shell (window that appears when you click on Serial Port Redirector icon) demonstates the current settings and allows you to change them.
If you close it Serial Port Redirector will continue to work.
It will stop working only if you press "Turn off" button in shell.

If you have more questions pelase do not hesitate to ask them

Thanks for the very fast answer. And what an good answer. I see the service know, just as i would like and requestet.

I do have an issue on my Windows 7 32 bit client. Here the program using the virtual com port looses the connection short time after im closing Serial Port Redirector GUI. Have you seen this before?

For your information, i have just tried it on an XP client, i do not have the issue on this client. Here the virtual serial communication runs fine after closing the GUI.

It might be my windows 7 client, that have some conflicting programs, but just want to know if you have heard about this issue before?

pbsiim,

No, unfortunately we have not met this problem before. But we will do our best to investigate it. Could you please send us the following files so we can analyse the issue:
- The system information of the Win7 computer where Serial Port Redirector is installed. To get system information file  you need to do the
following: Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System
Information File -> Save.
- The Serial Port Redirector log file. Please look for the logs in
%systemroot%\system32 folder (or if your PC is x64 then in
%systemroot%\syswow64). The log file name should be ""spr-err.log"

Please send all requested information to support@fabulatech.com
