Network addresses

Hi..

Firstly, nice product, very impressed...

But...  Is there an option to use a "name" instead of an IP address?  My "remote" computer is on a dynamic dialup, but has dyndns so I can find it when it's on.  At the moment it's a pain pinging it to find it's IP, then entering that into NPSK.  Is there a way to us the name and let DNS sort it out?

I also read somewhere on another thread, something to do with an aplication interface DLL?  Do tell more, as that sounds even more usefull...

Cheers.

We've added already this feature in the new improved 4.8 version of Network Serial Port Kit and plan to publish it somewhere in month.  We would like to invite you to take part in beta testing of this new version.

New 4.8 version is available for download here:

Any your comments and suggestions are welcome!

Excelemt response.  Thanks.

Have downloaded the beta, will install and play again the next couple of days.  (Work get's in the way of the serious stuff Grin)

From what you say, it should do the trick.  Will let you know.

Thanks again.

Hi again...

Bit more testing done...

Yes the new version (Beta) does handle dotted web names as "addresses" just fine.  Thanks. Grin

It also is quite happy, traveling over a SSH link between two PC's, both ends effectively connecting to 127.0.0.1

In this instance, the SSH link involves Cygwin at one end, and PuTTY at the other.  Bit of a faff, but it works well.

Is there any posibility of re-instating the "port handshake wiring" feature of the earlier version, as that was quite useful, for using older bits of instrumentation and other strange hardware.

Cheers again.
