You can easily share and access remote printers and hard disks over network. But there is no standard solution which allows working with remote serial devices.
GPS-receivers, barcode scanners, modems, sensors, PBX, laboratory equipment are not usually dedicated to be shared over network.
It's good if you are able to unplug serial device from a computer and plug it into another one. But often it's very difficult task, especially if that device is located in another building or even in another city.
Using Network Serial Port Kit you can share physical serial port with connected device and then access this device from any other computer over local network or the Internet.
At the same time, virtual serial port is created on computer from which you want to access serial device and it's the exact copy of remote physical serial port with the connected device.
Data are forwarded over network from physical serial port to virtual serial port and vice versa. An application on local computer works with serial device via virtual serial port not suspecting that the serial device is in another place.
You can easily use Network Serial Port Kit for creating virtual null-modem connections over network. In other words, you can connect two communications applications running on different computers by means of virtual null-modem cable over network.
At that, virtual serial ports are created on both computers and they look like physical serial ports for communications applications. Data written to local virtual serial port are automatically forwarded to remote virtual serial port and vice versa.

USB over Network 5.2 for Windows and Linux has been released with a lot of new features and changes!
New features have been added: the possibility to use SSL in callback connections, devices can be connected by its VID/PID using the command-line utility. Sharing Rule Manager has been improved also: now it is possible to assign a nickname to a device and change its serial number.
Overall stability and performance have been improved for high load situations with extremely large number of Servers or Clients or devices. Compatibility with some USB devices has been enhanced as well.5 December 2016
USB for Remote Desktop 5.2 has been released for Windows and Linux. Tray UI has been revised and furbished up. Command line interface has been greatly improved, there is a possibility to administrate Device Policies using command line now. Compatibility with some USB devices has been enhanced. Biometrics for Remote Desktop 1.3 has been released. It's the first public release of new redirection software which allows to use biometric and fingerprint scanners in remote desktop session.20 October 2016
Printer for Remote Desktop 1.4 has been released. Windows 10 support has been added. New functionality has been added to the tray menu. Connection and licensing issues have been fixed. Few other minor bugs have been fixed as well.
