Title: Server can't use the same USB Device while sharing
Post by infogrames on Aug 30th, 2010, 6:27pm
While sharing, the server could not access the usb scanner. Only if stoping sharing could the server access. Then what to do to make server and client to access the same device at the sam time while sharing?

USB over Network provides exclusive access to the shared devices. It means that only one Client can access shared device at the same time. All other Clients
should wait until first Client releases the device. Or they can access another devices.

It's not a drawback of our product, it's a feature of modern USB technology.

My scanner is HP LaserJet 1005, which is All-in-One. And I stand as the server, every one print through my machine. While HP LaserJet 1005 is being shared, neither server nor clients could access the printing function unless I stop sharing. How can I solve this problem? I make out 2 methods as below:
1. Stop sharing when someone need printing, but when someone want sacnning, I have to reshare again.
2. Install a clien program on the server and set it always connecting to HP LaserJet 1005, when someone ask for scanning, server just has to release it.
Which is the best way? Or it can't be solved because of the feature of modern USB technology?

Yes, this is how it works. As soon as the device is shared it becomes unavailable for the local use. It disappears from the systems (from your system where it's plugged).

Both scenarios should work ok. You just have to test both of them and decide which one is the most convenient from you.
